Amanda Lindner is an award-winning journalist and press aide who believes in using the power of the pen to improve the lives of others.

She is currently a news editor for One Green Planet.

Previously, she was a Press Aide for Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern, in which she led media and communications for the government office. Amanda was the first Senior Local Editor for Patch.com in the country while working on Long Island, covering breaking news, business, crime, local politics, education, health and feature stories. Amanda wrote up to 10 articles a day for two hyper-local news websites, serving as the sole writer, editor, photographer, videographer and social media manager. Under her leadership, the sites grew to become two of the highest trafficked Patch.com sites in Suffolk County. In addition, one of those sites, Commack Patch, increased its Facebook fans by more than 1,000 in less than one year. Several of her stories, including a controversial school board ruling on disciplining an autistic child and the whereabouts of a missing man, reached viral status and were picked up by multiple national news outlets.

During her tenure as a staff writer for Long Islander Newspapers in Huntington, NY, she took on several investigative pieces, including the abuse of heroin on Long Island, a legal battle over a local church, and the sexual abuse of a teenage girl.

It was during that time that the New York Press Association named her the “Rookie Reporter of the Year” in its 2010 Better Newspaper Contest. The judges said that Amanda’s work represents what one would expect from a seasoned veteran reporter. “She tackles serious, hard news… she is an impressive talent… her enthusiasm for journalism is apparent,” the judges wrote in their statement.

An alumna of The George Washington University, Amanda graduated magna cum laude in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication. During her senior year, she served as Web editor for her college newspaper, The GW Hatchet. At that time, the paper received the Mark of Excellence Award for Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper and second place for Best Affiliated Website in region from the Society of Professional Journalists.

In addition to general news assignments, Amanda has particular interests in human rights, animal welfare, health and environmental issues. In 2012, she was one of eight GWU alumni selected to report in Berlin, Germany, covering sustainable business practices.

Amanda is available for freelance and long-term reporting assignments. She can be contacted at aelindner@gmail.com.
